Date: 22 Jan 2003
Work is to start next week (27 January) on an innovative, £4.7 million development for small and medium-sized businesses to be housed underneath the Eurostar line in Battersea.
Spacia, the UK's largest landlord for small and medium-sized businesses, is building 17 new units suitable for light industrial use at disused rail land at Linford Street and Stewarts Lane, near Queenstown Road station. Totalling 55,000 sq ft (5,110 sq m), the units will help meet demand for business accommodation in the area.
The scheme is forecast to be completed in December this year. The development site is currently brownfield land, and the scheme fits with Government priorities to put previously used land back to work.
Adrian Schofield, Spacia's National Development Manager, commented: "We have a significant programme in 2003 to update and renovate a large amount of our estate to create modern business premises. Some 225,000 sq ft of property is being transformed in south London alone, and our work in Battersea forms a significant part of this.
"We will continue to invest in new property for the small and medium-sized business sector across south London."
