Hodgson Elkington - Retail Development - Sudbrooke, Elm Drive
Date: 06 Feb 2003
Somerville Properties Limited has won a planning appeal against West Lindsey District Council over a scheme to build 3 shops and a bungalow at Elm Drive, Sudbrooke.
The fight for permission to build a single storey property had been running since a planning application was submitted in 2001. The application and appeal were dealt with by Morley Newborn, Architectural Technicians, of Lincoln.
"It's been worth the wait. This new scheme for the site will fit in well with the surrounding properties and provide the village with a real chance to attract local retail facilities," said Chris Hodgson, partner at chartered surveyors, Hodgson Elkington who are agents for the site.
The bungalow will be built at the same time as the shops to provide accommodation for a shop tenant or purchaser.
"We already have interest in the site and hope to see a start on development later this year" he added.
The appeal inspector rejected West Lindsey District Council's assertion that there should be no residential accommodation on the site. The inspector concluded that this was acceptable provided that it was tied to the provision of retail units. The inspector further said that the proposed bungalow would provide better living conditions for its future occupiers than a previously approved flat and would also have less impact on the privacy of neighbours.
