Distribution property specialist sbh.uk is project-managing the fast-track construction of a 30,000 sq m (330,000 sq ft) rail-connectable high bay warehouse for the Kellogg Company on Manchester’s Trafford Park.

Construction is well under way on the £18m project with the operation planned to go live in May 2003. Key to the tight timescale is the use of a Spierings mobile tower crane being used by subcontractor Hathaway Roofing, which services large areas of roofing from a single position. Working from a maximum height of 32m and lifting 1700kg out to 47m, it is saving considerable craneage set-up time and lifting more roof material per day than would be the case with handling materials from the site perimeter.

The new 30,000-pallet facility will store finished goods and will serve the company’s existing Trafford Park plant, the largest of its kind in Europe. 24 dock levellers and four hydroroll doors will provide ample access for goods delivery and dispatch.
