Chantrey Davis - Mixed-Use Development - London E14, Discovery Dock

Date: 10 Mar 2003

Commencement of works on site at Discovery Dock was celebrated when one of the future residents of Discovery Dock, Gerard Peters, cut the first turf for the foundations of this spectacular 24-storey building situated at the very heart of Canary Wharf, in the presence of the Mayor of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, Councillor Salim Ullah.

Mr Peters commented: ‘little did I think when I bought an apartment here that I would be expected to build it too!’ As he cut the turf he was cheered on by Sunny Crouch of Discovery Dock, part of the Capital and Provident development group, Kim Reynolds and Trevor Davison, Directors of architects and project managers Chantrey Davis, and Tim Ransome, Construction Manager of Shepherd Construction, who said: ‘We are delighted to have started work on Discovery Dock and will begin with the installation of sheet piling on the perimeter of the basement.’

Discovery Dock, named after Scott’s Antarctic research ship, Discovery, which used to dock here, is situated on the dockside adjacent to South Quay DLR station and within minutes walk of the Jubilee Line’s Canary Wharf station. The development includes 185 stylish one, two and three bedroom apartments, ground floor restaurant, retail units and underground parking for 188 cars. Trevor Davison, Director of Architecture at Chantrey Davis commented: ‘Working on a project of this calibre incorporating everything from building design to interior fit-out is always exciting. To have it set in such a stunning location makes it even more rewarding.’

Residents will be able to enjoy waterside views, a gymnasium, swimming pool and landscaped garden. 119 off-plan sales have been confirmed with prices ranging from £292,500 for a 1 bedroom apartment to £2.5m for penthouse suites.

Sunny Crouch, of Discovery Dock and former Director of the London Docklands Development Corporation commented: ‘The success of Discovery Dock proves the ‘location, location, location’ theory works, especially for a quality product. Canary Wharf with its great mix of offices, shopping mall, bars and restaurants now has a great place to live right on its doorstep, with both the West End or City only 20 minutes away. With works now on site, completion is due in spring 2005 when the first residents will be moving in.’

FPDSavills are the sole selling and letting agents for Discovery Dock. The Discovery Dock sales office number is 020 7093 4000.
