Newport Holdings - Leisure Development - Newport, Bridge Street
Date: 10 Mar 2003
Newport Holdings Plc (“Newport”) has secured a change of planning use for the ground floor at its multi-leisure complex in Bridge Street, Newport, from A1 retail to A3 food and drink.
The move follows close on the announcement that Newport has acquired a majority interest in a company to develop a multi million pound mixed leisure complex at Salubrious Place, Swansea.
The Bridge Street scheme currently includes a multi-screen cinema complex, and seven retail units. Following the planning change, negotiations will now be concluded to convert three empty units totalling 13,000 sq ft on the ground floor into a theme bar.
This area of Newport is progressively becoming integrated into the town’s popular leisure quarter with the conversion of the long established cinema site into a multi-leisure centre.
In addition to these schemes, Newport has let an existing social amenity to a nursery operator at its Llantrisant industrial site, leaving only one industrial unit to be let and a development site with planning consent for industrial/office use.
Bob Carlton-Porter, Executive Chairman, said: “Our strategy has been to expand our property interests in South Wales by seeking to maximise the potential within our existing portfolio. We are also pursuing other development opportunities.”
