Jones Lang LaSalle - Mixed-Use Development - Widnes, Waterfront
Date: 16 May 2003
The transformation of Widnes Waterfront could soon be underway with the recent completion of a new masterplan and delivery strategy by joint consultants, Jones Lang LaSalle and Building Design Partnership on behalf of Halton Borough Council.
The Halton Partnership was allocated £8million from the European Regional Development Fund for the massive regeneration, which could create around 2,700 new jobs. It is anticipated that this will be bolstered by a further £70 million in public and private sector investment.
Jones Lang LaSalle provided Halton Borough Council with property market advice in relation to the development of the masterplan. The document advises the Council on how to convert the 80-hectare site into a major regional development combining commercial, office, tourism and industrial sites. The team also provided a delivery strategy to assist in the implementation of the masterplan, which offered advice on funding and partnership opportunities within the private and public sectors.
Consultations were held with local residents, businesses and landowners to understand the aspirations and potential that individual land holdings would offer. The masterplan itself has identified a number of key development sites that will be brought forward on a phased basis.
Simon Bedford, Director of Planning and Development, Jones Lang LaSalle Manchester comments: ‘This was an exciting and challenging project. The masterplan provides Halton Partnership with an important tool, which will assist in bringing forward a wide range of new development. The regeneration of the Waterfront will greatly enhance the town, improving employment, economic development opportunities and the physical appearance of the area.’
