Helios Properties - Industrial Development - Darlington, Newton Park

Date: 03 Jun 2003

Helios Properties has unveiled plans for a major new distribution warehouse park to serve the north east of England.

The privately-owned development and investment company has submitted an outline planning application for 92,900 sq m (1 million sq ft) of distribution space on a 62 ha (154-acre) site adjacent to junction 59 of the A1(M) on the outskirts of Darlington.

Newton Park, as the scheme will be known, is designed to cater for distribution and logistics companies looking for a base in the north east. “There is a distinct need for a high quality distribution park to serve this economically vital region,” Helios director Trevor Cartner comments. “Newton Park is ideally suited to serve both the Tyneside and Teesside conurbations.”

“There is an increasing demand from potential occupiers across most size ranges, however, to best serve this region we envisage building out units ranging between 100,000 sq ft to 500,000 sq ft.”

Helios has appointed King Sturge and Storey Sons & Parker as letting agents. Architect is Burks Green; engineer is Bullen Consultants and environmental consultant is WSP.
