Centros Miller - Retail Development - Maidstone, Fremlin Walk

Date: 16 Jul 2003

Pre-letting of Centros Miller’s £100 million Fremlin Walk shopping centre development in the heart of Maidstone in Kent continues apace with another five top retailers signing up in recent weeks.

Construction of the 350,000 sq ft (32,500 sq m) scheme – which will be anchored by a new 100,000 sq ft (9,300 sq m), two-level House of Fraser department store - began in March (2003). Since then 13 more retailers have committed to the centre, which is scheduled to open in March 2005.

The latest tranche of deals has seen La Senza, Rubicon (for a Principles outlet), Stylo Barratt, Clinton Cards (for its second Maidstone store) and Timpson join a tenant line up which already includes Next, H&M, Etam, JD Sports, JJB Sports, Boots, HMV, Top Shop/Top Man, Goldsmiths, Ciro Citterio, USC, Thomas Cook, Ottakars, Beaverbrooks, Blacks and Faith.

Commenting on the lettings, Centros Miller Development Director Ivan Stephenson said:
“As one of the few new developments due to open in 2005, Fremlin Walk is attracting a lot of attention from occupiers keen not to miss out on the opportunity to be part of the transformation of Maidstone. The scheme will propel Maidstone into the UK’s top 50 shopping locations for the first time.

“The impact it will have on the fashion mix in the town is already being recognised by retailers, as clearly demonstrated by Rubicon’s decision to open a Principles store. Principles previously traded in Maidstone when it was part of Redcastle and is now returning to the town as a direct result of the improved fashion offer that will be provided by Fremlin Walk.”

Rents in the region of £150 per sq ft (£1,615 per sq m) Zone A have been achieved on the most recent lettings.

Joint letting agents for Fremlin Walk are Churston Heard and Leslie Furness.
