Jones Lang LaSalle and DTZ - Retail Development - Edinburgh, Gyle Shopping Centre

USS is delighted to announce that it has been granted outline planning consent by Edinburgh City Council to expand its Gyle Shopping Centre by 2,788 sq m (30,000 sq ft). Part of the extension will see the creation of a new fashion store for Next.

Next currently trades from 550 sq m (5,923 sq ft). However due to the success of Gyle, Next is expanding its retail offer by creating a new store totalling 1858 sq m (20,000sq ft) over two floors.

Next's new store will commence trading in October 2004 and will bring Gyle Shopping Centre's retail space to in excess of 360,000 sq ft. Other recent initiatives to enhance Gyle's offer and widen the product range for shoppers include the successful introduction of four Roving Mall Unit's

USS is committed to actively managing and investing in Gyle to improve not only its retail offer, but also its community facilities and public transport accessibility. It is this investment and the growth of the west Edinburgh area as a whole that have strengthened Gyle's role as a sustainable town centre location.

Other tenants at Gyle include Marks & Spencer, Gap, Virgin, River Island, The Disney Store, Boots, Safeway and Starbucks.
