Helios Properties - Leisure Development - Sunderland, River Quarter

Date: 08 Dec 2003

Sunderland’s £18 million new cinema and leisure development has been named River Quarter.

The new identity has been designed by Rufus, a Seaham-based advertising and design company, for the developers of the 11,612 sq m (125,000 sq ft) scheme, Helios Properties.

Trevor Cartner, director of Helios Properties comments: “The branding aims to provide the scheme with a strong image and identity which will assist in the transformation of the Sunniside area and complete the link back to the city centre.

“Sunderland is currently the largest city in the UK without a cinema and we hope that River Quarter will bring a new vibrancy to the city.”

River Quarter comprises a 2,220 seat 12-screen Cine UK cinema, 1,858 sq m (20,000 sq ft) Gala Casino, 372 sq m (4,000 sq ft) Frankie & Benny’s restaurant and a 670 space multi-storey car park. The remaining 4,181 sq m (45,000 sq ft) of space will comprise further family restaurants, bars and a nightclub.

Work began on the scheme in June 2003 with completion expected by summer 2004.

King Sturge and Rapleys are the letting agents.
