Argent - Offices Development - Birmingham, Brindleyplace

Date: 27 Jan 2004

The final piece of Birmingham’s £350m showpiece development is now in place with the practical completion of the 279,429 sq ft Core Building at Brindleyplace for the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS).

The building, which links Seven, Eight and Ten Brindleyplace, was leased by developers Argent Group to RBS in the largest pre-let in Birmingham in 2001. It was designed specifically to accommodate RBS’ requirements with large open floorplates of 40,000 sq ft, with an internal street running at ground level linking the three buildings.

Tony Giddings, Construction Director of Argent – owners of Brindleyplace, commented: “We are delighted that practical completion has been achieved on the contract completion date on the core building and, as we enter the new year, that the building is ready for the RBS fit out which is scheduled for completion in August.

“This is a dramatic conclusion to the construction of Brindleyplace, which has seen the development of 800,000 sq ft of office space since work started in 1993, and a major step forward in the continuing life of the development. Brindleyplace has been recognised by many professional and financial services companies as the premier business location in Birmingham and as RBS take residency, over 8,000 people will be working here.”

Eight Brindleyplace forms the centrepiece of the core building providing 92,505 sq ft of space and links Seven and Ten which are located on either side – providing 102,713 sq ft and 84,211sq ft of space respectively. The buildings will accommodate 3,000 employees, with 300 parking spaces located in the secure basements car parks.

Colin Darling, Project Manager for the Royal Bank of Scotland’s move to Brindleyplace said: “Brindleyplace provided the ideal location for our new headquarters in Birmingham, not only is the area fast becoming the business location for the city, but the imaginative solutions Argent offered us – including the flexibility and quality of space we desired – were key to our decision to relocate here.”
