European Urban Developments (EUD) - Mixed-Use Development - North London, Camden

Date: 01 Mar 2004

The latest acquisition, an urban infill canal-side site will be a mixed-use development comprising affordable accommodation for rent and shared ownership for key workers and others and incorporating commercial space. EUD will work in partnership with Acton Housing Association to submit designs for planning and build out the scheme. It will incorporate sustainable principles with an emphasis on high quality contextual design.

This is the most recent of a series of schemes in the Camden Town/Kentish Town area for use by housing associations.

Planning permission was obtained by Paul Whitley Architects in May last year for the first, a mixed use development incorporating 12 affordable housing flats and commercial office space.

The second, on which a planning decision is imminent, is a 100% low cost shared home ownership scheme comprising 27 flats, in a mixture of 1-, 2- and 3-bed units over five floors.

EUD are also developing a site in Camden as a joint venture with a private developer for high-specification private residential accommodation. This comprises two maisonettes, five flats and a three-storey house, with office space on the ground floor.

Paul Whitley Architects Limited were commissioned to stage D on the first scheme to receive planning. The practice will provide full architectural services for the other three projects.
