Rapleys - Leisure Development - Manchester, Chill Factor E

A planning application has been submitted to Trafford Metropolitan Borough Council for the development of Britain's biggest indoor snowsports destination on an 11 acre site adjacent to the Trafford Centre.
The application, submitted by Rapleys on behalf of Mountaineering Activities (Trafford) Ltd. and Peel Investments (North) Ltd., includes real snow slopes for skiing, snowboarding and tobogganing, together with ice climbing, a rock climbing wall and an indoor skateboard park, along with retail outlets, bars and restaurants.
The £28 million proposal - to be known as Chill Factor E - covers 23,225 sq m (250,000 sq ft) and is scheduled to open in 2006.
The piste will measure 40 metres at the take off point and widen to 100 metres at the foot. The overall length will be 180 metres with a downhill drop from top to bottom of 40 metres.
Peter Johnson, Partner in charge of Rapleys Manchester Planning team said;
"The application is on part of land allocated for ajor sports use. It complements the adjoining sports and leisure uses and will be a popular addition to the facilities in this part of Greater Manchester".
"The application is consistent with the Council's policy for the site and the Local Authority have been very supportive of our clients proposal".
The management team, which includes Peter Moore and David Sterland have extensive experience of major leisure based schemes. Peter was responsible for launching and developing Center Parcs in the UK and David was instrumental in the development of Xscape Milton Keynes.
Architects for the scheme are FaulknerBrowns and letting agents are Capital Retail.
