Benoy - Mixed-Use Development - Surrey, Stockton Riverbank
Date: 17 Feb 2005
International architecture and masterplanning practice Benoy's proposals, on behalf of Tees Valley Regeneration, for the £300 million regeneration of Stockton's riverbank, has been granted planning consent.
The North Shore scheme is a vital component of the Stockton Middlesborough Initiative, and regenerates 56-acres of brown-field land by the waterfront. The site is adjacent to the popular town centre and opposite the successful Teesdale Business Park. North Shore will create a new vibrant urban district that will help to economically rejuvenate Stockton.
The development comprises; 480 new abodes, ranging from apartments to family homes; 650,000 sq ft of office accommodation; 25,000 sq ft of leisure space; a 100-bed hotel; cafès and restaurants. The North Shore development will also benefit from a pedestrian / cycle bridge linking the scheme to the Thornby side of the river.
Another key element of Stockton's renaissance is the proposed expansion of nearby Durham University. The scheme includes 180,000 sq ft of residential units as well as conference facilities. It is hoped that the expansion will help to raise the profile of both the University and Stockton itself.
Work on the scheme is expected to commence by summer 2006 with the regeneration expected to be complete in 2014.
