hurleypalmerflatt - Offices Development - London E14, Churchill Place
Date: 31 Mar 2005
Barclays' new headquarters building in Canary Wharf, for which hurleypalmerflatt provided Mechanical and Electrical engineering has achieved the fastest construction in Canary Wharf, is of BREEAM Excellent standards and incorporates five of the largest atria in Europe.
The 1 million sq ft development started on site in November 2002 and was completed by 25th July 2004. To achieve this extraordinary feat, the base-build and fit-out (interiors designed by Pringle Brandon), occurred simultaneously and HOK took an innovative design approach, designing the exterior around the construction programme.
The building was designed to promote and inspire interaction and communication. It is an enabler of cultural change for a company that has consolidated its London portfolio to house 6,000 staff under one roof. All staff will be in situ by summer 2005.
