Marubeni-Komatsu - General - PC228US-3 Excavator
Date: 06 Apr 2005
Komatsu's PC228US-3 excavator is a full-option machine with the addition of its optional two-piece boom, and has greater lifting capacity, thanks to a continuous lift assist mode.
Available in the UK from Marubeni-Komatsu, the PC228US-3 is a short-tail crawler excavator with a tail swing within the width of its tracks. In the 22-tonne operating weight class, the PC228US-3 has proven itself to be a highly useful machine in confined, difficult-to-access spaces. By configuring the PC228US-3 with a two-piece boom its overall swing radius has diminished more, yielding even-greater confined space operations versatility.
A tighter swing radius is not the only advantage. The two-piece boom also assists in the precision placement of objects during lift operations. It allows lifted objects to be moved in small increments, using the machine's hydraulics. This is especially useful in pipe-laying operations where lifting and handling precision is needed - and often has to be done very close to the machine. The two-piece boom also makes digging operations possible closer to the machine where the operator has a better view of the work area.
The PC228US-3's lifting capacity has been increased by more than 7%, thanks to the machine's continuous-lift mode. The operator selects this mode on the machine's 'Equipment Management and Monitoring System' (EMMS) control panel. The EMMS provides four working modes to assist in specific operations. These modes are 'Active' for maximum power and fast cycle times, 'Economy' for quiet running and fuel economy, 'Breaker' for optimal hydraulic pressure, and 'Lifting' for increased lifting power. Each mode matches engine speed, pump speed, and system pressure with the current work requirement.
