Ballymena-based Patton Construction - part of the £100m+ Patton Group - has begun work on a £14.5m project for the building of a new town hall, museum and arts complex in its home town.

The work will comprise the demolition of part of the existing town hall, underpinning works and the construction of a new five storey museum, a new four storey fly tower, a new four storey arts extension as well as the refurbishment of the existing three storey Grade B listed town hall to provide new civic and arts facilities, together with associated site works and drainage.

The project has been described by the council as the 'jewel in its crown'.

Trevor Campbell, Patton Construction Director, said the company was excited at the prospect of being involved in one of the most prestigious public sector schemes of its kind in Northern Ireland. The project should be finished by November 2007.
