Humberts - Retail Development - Romsey, Latimer Street
Date: 24 May 2005
Work is underway at an imaginative redevelopment project, designed to breathe new life into an historic building in the heart of Romsey.
PJP Southern Limited has just moved in to undertake the building work at the property in Latimer Street, which is due for completion in November, on behalf of Brazier Properties.
Acquired by Brazier Properties through the Southampton office of Humberts Commercial, the building has been empty for several years and was badly in need of a sympathetic face-lift.
In the past, the property has been a pub, a fish and chip shop and, more latterly, Thimbles - a purveyor of dressmaking supplies and its redevelopment gives a further boost to Romsey's already flourishing Town Centre Enhancement Scheme.
Located just off the main shopping area of The Hundred, 16 Latimer Street is directly opposite the pedestrian entrance to the new Waitrose supermarket, in the heart of the picturesque traditional town centre.
The property has planning permission for 1,500 sq ft of brand new retail space with two residential flats above. Work has just started on the scheme which aims to transform the building and retain its original façade in a way which will be in keeping with the nature and character of neighbouring properties.
The retail development is being marketed by Humberts and is available on a new flexible lease either as a single 1,500 sq ft unit or two units of approximately 750 sq ft. The flats are available through Michael Rhodes Estate Agents.
Richard Brazier, managing director of Brazier Properties, commented: "I am delighted that work has now started on what is going to be a very exciting development and which we hope will add an extra dimension to Romsey's thriving town centre.
"With Humberts having already received expressions of interest from a number of potential occupiers, and its strong trading location opposite Waitrose, I am confident that the redevelopment of 16 Latimer Street will be a success."
