Chartered Institute of Building - General - Accreditation of Masters' Degrees
Date: 06 Jun 2005
The CIOB continues to gain recognition for the standards it sets and maintains in the accreditation of degree courses.
In 2004, the Construction Industry Council (CIC) issued their Higher Education Graduate Common Learning Outcomes (CLO) to professional bodies. These supersede the 1997 CLOs covering built environment Higher Education programmes and are designed to reflect the changing needs of industry.
The Learning Outcomes embrace the requirements for all those graduating into the sector to possess a common knowledge and understanding of construction practices. The criteria prescribed by the CIC include the development of personal skills supported by technical and professional awareness.
In November 2004, CIOB mapped the requirements of the CIC scheme against its Education Framework to establish parity. As a result, a Memorandum of Agreement was completed with the CIC entitling the designation 'CIC endorsed course' to be used by providers demonstrating compliancy. This agreement shall allow any teaching Institution that becomes accredited under the CIOB Education Framework 2005 edition, to use the CIC logo as part of their course promotion.
