Marubeni-Komatsu Ltd - General - The Komatsu Wheel Loader Range
Date: 19 Sep 2005
Aggregate Industries UK, the leading aggregates, construction and building materials company, has recently awarded preferred supplier status to Marubeni-Komatsu in a deal which could see in excess of 40 units being supplied by the end of 2005.
Machines will be delivered to Aggregate Industries' sites throughout the UK, from Stornoway in the Hebrides to Stoneycombe in Devon. The largest single delivery of six units is destined for the company's Northern Region and comprises three WA470-5 and one WA480-5 mid-range wheel loaders, along with two WA500-3 large wheel loaders.
Marubeni-Komatsu is the sole distributor in the UK for the Komatsu range of construction equipment with a line-up that sets new standards in operator comfort and safety. In addition, their new low-emission engines deliver increased horsepower and greater digging forces.
Aggregate Industries UK, an Aggregate Industries plc company, is involved in the quarrying, manufacture and distribution of primary aggregates, asphalt, ready-mixed concrete, precast concrete products, recycled and secondary aggregates for use in the building and civil engineering industries. The company has leading regional market positions in the United Kingdom as well as operations in the Channel Islands and Norway.
Aggregate Industries' sourcing strategy was based on a number of criteria, reports Dominic Connolly, Senior Buyer: "we considered the total package when deciding to appoint Marubeni-Komatsu as our preferred supplier, with factors such as machine quality, cost and service support being central to our decision."
A client / supplier working party was then established to ensure that the correct machines were delivered to the required specification. John Eustace, Northern Area Production Manager with Aggregate Industries, says: "During the selection process we worked closely with John Bell's team from the Marubeni-Komatsu depot at Chester-le-Street to develop an enhanced health and safety specification, including inspection bay lighting, Isolocks to prevent accidental start-up and additional anti-slip panels, roof lights and mirrors. We also identified the duties that were required at each site and matched the machinery to the tasks - effectively we came up with an Aggregate Industries specification. "
Commenting on the announcement, Allen Smith, Director/General Manager with Marubeni-Komatsu says: "We are delighted to have been chosen by Aggregate Industries, and we are justifiably proud of the solid reputation that our equipment has earned in service, however, equipment performance and productivity is only part of the story. During the tender process Aggregate Industries emphasised that it was also looking at the equipment in terms of the total cost of ownership - this included service, repair, maintenance and parts back-up and I believe that our nationwide customer support capability played a significant role in securing the order."
The Komatsu wheel loader range has proven itself in many applications worldwide, as multi-purpose loaders in earth moving operations and as prime movers in quarries. All operators appreciate their comfort, production capability, stability and reliability.
Since being established in the 1960's, Marubeni-Komatsu has notched up more than 40 years experience and now the company claims to be the UK's most comprehensive 'one-stop shop' for the construction industry.
