Jackson Construction - Leisure Development - Dartford, Princes Park

Date: 03 Nov 2005

Jackson Construction has netted a £6.5 million project from Dartford Borough Council to build a high specification 4,000 capacity football stadium for Dartford Football Club in Kent. The Southern League Division One East club is currently ground sharing with Gravesend & Northfleet FC at Stonebridge Road, however plans have now been approved for the new stadium to be constructed at the Princes Park site.

The flagship development, which forms part of a major regeneration drive within the borough, is due to start on site mid-November, with completion scheduled for late summer 2006. The National Conference League standard stadium will feature a high specification main stand with seated capacity of just under 1,000 fans. The reinforced concrete frame stand will incorporate changing rooms, function suites, a club lounge and a directors' suite.

Work on building the covered terraces to the remaining sides of the pitch, which will accommodate around 3,000 fans, commences in spring 2006, when Jackson will also install irrigation and drainage services for the new floodlit pitch. The scheme itself is highly sustainable and as part of the development's green credentials, Jackson Construction will lay a sedum planted roof on the main stand. Externally a large car park will be created with over 300 spaces and a new all weather full size floodlit pitch will be constructed.

Bernard Clarke, Managing Director of Jackson Construction, commented: "With the recent award of a £3 million project to build a new ground for non-league Harlow Football Club, and the company's high profile contract to extend the south stand for Ipswich Town Football Club, Jackson Construction is gaining an enviable reputation for working on key note sporting facilities. Once completed, Dartford FC's new high specification ground will not only prove an excellent sporting venue, but also focus community aspirations and spark continued regeneration within the area."

Jeremy Kite, Deputy Leader of Dartford Borough Council, said: "We are delighted to be working with Jackson on this once in a lifetime project. Jackson have a growing reputation for delivering first-class buildings in the sports sector and Princes Park is set to be a new kind of stadium - something very special indeed."
