Jackson Building Services - Offices Development - Whittlesey, Sir Harry Smith Community College

Date: 17 Nov 2005

Jackson Building Services has successfully completed a £1.5 million education project at the Sir Harry Smith Community College in Whittlesey for Cambridgeshire County Council. The project to build a two-storey classroom block extension, and a state-of-the-art single-storey technology (CDT) block at the school, utilised off site manufacturing techniques to reduce the time spent on site and minimise disruption to the working school.

Jackson Building Services employed some of the very latest pre-fabricated building solutions to construct the two classroom extensions. A system of pre-cast concrete panels form internal and external walls, as well as the roof and floors of the new buildings. By phasing the more disruptive elements of the project to coincide with term holidays, Jackson was careful to ensure that the works had limited impact on the day-to-day operation of the school, with the 32-week project completed on time and within budget.

Michael Manning, construction director for Jackson Building Services, commented: "By successfully incorporating off site manufacturing techniques into the building process we significantly reduced the construction programme at the Sir Harry Smith Community College and delivered a high quality solution for our client."
