BPR Architects - Mixed-Use Development - Wolverton, Stratford Road

Date: 01 Dec 2005

Milton Keynes' new £1.8 million railway station for Wolverton, designed by BPR Architects, has been granted planning consent. The scheme on Stratford Road would provide a landmark at the gateway to Wolverton Town Centre and contribute to plans for the regeneration of the town.

The design concept for the new station, developed in close consultation with the local community, provides a vision of the future and acknowledges the historical importance of the region. Wolverton was the first purpose built railway town, where the famous 'Bloomer' locomotive was designed, and is the home of distinctive Victorian and Edwardian architecture.

The scheme is to replace the existing temporary accommodation provided by Network Rail following the demolition of the original building over the bridge structure. Realisation of the project now depends upon the funding actively being sought.

The project team includes Capita Property Services as cost consultant, hurleypalmerflatt as mechanical & electrical engineer and Jenkins and Potter as structural engineers. BPR Architects are project managing the design of the scheme.
