May Gurney - Mixed-Use Development - Key Role on Jubilee Line
Date: 01 Dec 2005
May Gurney Rail Services is playing a key role in Tube Lines' multi-million pound commitment to enhance and increase capacity on London's Jubilee Line, in time for the 2012 Olympics.
Works on the prestigious North Greenwich station capacity contract, which began in September, will run smoothly thanks to the close partnering between Tube Lines and their contractors, May Gurney Rail Services.
To confirm their commitment, project personnel from both companies recently joined together in their first team building exercise. A common vision was confirmed, targets agreed and a strategy devised on how they would work together to ensure the successful delivery of the project to programme - and to help this commitment project personnel will be working side-by-side in offices in North Greenwich.
Russell Adams, May Gurney Rail Services Managing Director said: "We are absolutely delighted to be working for Tube Lines on this prestigious project.
"The May Gurney/Tube Lines team have, as a result of this successful team building exercise, been able to 'hit the ground running' to work more closely together from the outset, thus ensuring effective delivery.
"The station improvements will enable a higher capacity of Tube Line travellers to use the station in anticipation of large numbers travelling to the Millennium Dome during the Olympics."
The North Greenwich station improvement project is designed to:
· increase passenger capacity for visitors to the Millennium Dome, which is currently being upgraded and which the line serves;
· allow significantly more people to use the station at any one time.
The works, which began at the end of September and are scheduled to run for 53 weeks, will involve remodelling the station by replacing an existing half escalator with two full-height escalators and replacing two existing maintenance staircases, currently stretching from the upper concourse to the machine rooms, with two in stainless steel. The replacement staircases will be extended to serve the station platforms and have been designed to offer additional emergency access. May Gurney will complete all the associated remedial works relating to these works.
