Marubeni-Komatsu Limited - General - PC210LC Waste Specification Exactor

Date: 07 Dec 2005

Low level maintenance has been cited by a Leeds based construction and demolition waste site as the prime reason for selecting a PC210LC Waste Specification exactor from Marubeni-Komatsu.

The site operates a fleet of vehicles to handle a wide range of waste including bricks, concrete, soil and wood. Two of the existing material handling machines were requiring daily maintenance to prevent overheating and remain operative and so the site's operators, LSS Waste Management, approached Marubeni-Komatsu to see how a PC210 machine could cope with the environment.

Following extensive testing, the PC210LC demonstrated that it was more than able to handle the application, with a 'riddle bucket' employed to sort bricks and wood from the soil and rubble. The dust generated by the operation, which had necessitated daily cleaning of the existing two excavators, did not impact on the performance of the PC210LC in the 300 hours of operation over which the test was conducted.

Mark Pritchard, General Manager of LSS Waste Management, commented -"After 300 hours we inspected the cooling system on the Komatsu machine and it was very clean compared to our other two excavators based on equivalent use. We have not had to clean the Komatsu radiator or the engine filter, unlike one machine where we were cleaning the radiator three times a day. This has significantly reduced our preventative maintenance requirements."

Kirk Dakin, the operator of the PC210LC, who had been responsible for maintaining the other machines, said -"The external mesh filter on the Komatsu catches a lot of the dirt and prevents it getting into the cooling system. Now it is just a case of using a soft brush to remove the excess dust and takes about 30 seconds. I have also been impressed by the reduced noise levels and the improvements in productivity we have achieved."
