MDA Consulting - Retail Development - Barnsley, Barnsley Markets

Date: 05 Jan 2006

MDA Consulting has been appointed as cost consultant and planning supervisor by the 1249 Regeneration Partnership consortium on its proposed redevelopment of Barnsley Markets in the Metropolitan Centre, designed to establish Barnsley as the 21st Century Market Town at the heart of Yorkshire.

The mixed-use scheme will provide a modern, purpose-built series of Market Halls on Kendray Street, replacing the existing poor standard of buildings and creating a new and vibrant market centre.

The remainder of the 3.38-hectare site will comprise 44,128 sq m (475,000 sq ft) of retail and leisure accommodation including a department store, shops, a cinema, restaurants and a 1,200-space car park. It will create a high quality public realm and improve access.

The scheme will commence towards the end of 2006 and complete in late 2009.
