Totty Construction - Offices Development - Sandbach, Middlewich Road
Date: 16 Feb 2006
Totty Construction has secured a high profile £6.9 million development with Congleton Borough Council to centralise the Council's office facilities, currently spread out across the borough, onto a single purpose-built site in Sandbach, Cheshire. The new office scheme will replace a patchwork of buildings and temporary structures that the Council currently occupies at the Sandbach site.
A ceremonial signing of the contract ceremony has now taken place, with Councillor Gordon Baxendale, Borough Mayor, and Mark Fairclough, Managing Director of Totty Construction's Commercial Division, signing the formal documents to signify the official start of the new office development.
The project has been carefully phased to ensure there is no disruption to essential Council services throughout the duration of the development. Staff will continue to work from existing offices on the site, whilst the new building is constructed primarily on the former car park. Once completed, staff will decant from their offices on site, which will be demolished and landscaped, and be joined by colleagues from across the borough in their new purpose built facility.
Work on the predominantly three-storey steel frame office block commences at the end of February, and is due for completion at the end of September 2007. With majority brickwork and cladding to the façade, the new building will also feature an extensive curved glazed entrance area and slate roof. Environmentally friendly elements of the design include an ecologically sound rainwater harvesting system that stores water for use in w/c's.
Members of the public will benefit from a new one-stop-shop facility situated in the entrance of the new building, providing information and advice services, with the lobby area also used for small public exhibitions and displays. The ground floor will also house a number of council meeting rooms, and departmental head offices. The first and second floors of the new block will have an open plan layout, with Totty installing two lifts to provide access.
Externally Totty will form a large car park area and carry out extensive landscaping of the site, retaining many of the existing trees and planting new shrubs. Mark Fairclough, managing director of Totty Construction's commercial division, commented: "The project to centralise office facilities for Congleton Borough Council represents a highly prestigious win for Totty Construction and we are thrilled to be working towards the goal of bringing Council facilities together on one specially designed site. The project team has worked tremendously hard over a long period of time to bring this project to fruition and I am delighted that Totty will be responsible for delivering such a key note scheme within the area."
