Totty Construction - Mixed-Use Development - Leeds, Leeds Architecture Award
Date: 21 Feb 2006
Totty Construction's £33 million Brewery Wharf residential development in Leeds city centre has scooped top honours in the prestigious People's Award category of the Leeds Architecture Awards. Totty also celebrated picking up a commendation in the Altered Building category for its £7.7 million extension to Leeds College of Music.
The Leeds Architecture Awards, now in their 19th year, recognise innovation, sustainable architecture and quality of design, with winners selected by council leaders, leading regional architects and specially invited guest assessors. The People's Award, voted for by individuals from across the whole of West Yorkshire, is one of the most coveted accolades at the annual event and highlights the influence the regeneration of the former Tetley Brewery Wharf visitor attraction has had on the local community.
Council leader, Councillor Andrew Carter said: "These awards showcase some of the stunning buildings and open spaces that we have in Leeds. The city is changing rapidly and these awards will encourage developers and builders to strive for higher standards of design and construction."
Phillip Brierley, Chairman of Totty Construction Group, commented: "To receive formal recognition for two of our recent developments in Leeds is hugely satisfying and highlights the importance the company places on enhancing the built environment. We are especially delighted to have won the People's Award for the influential Brewery Wharf development, which received a firm seal of approval from the general public and has acted as a catalyst for regeneration within this part of the city."
