Marubeni-Komatsu Limited - General - New Hydraulic Excavators
Date: 28 Feb 2006
Komatsu has released three new hydraulic excavators in the 20 - 30 tonne range with a unique cab designed to protect the operator in case of roll over. The PC210-8, PC240-8 and PC290-8 also feature Komatsu's Komtrax tracking system and a large-screen, video-capable monitor. They deliver extremely low fuel consumption and interior noise levels similar to a family car.
The new machines include a brand new cab developed specifically for hydraulic excavators. Its tubular steel frame is highly durable and designed to provide the maximum protection for the operator if the machine should ever roll over. Tests have shown that even if the machine rolls down a slope, the operator remains unharmed. In addition, the cab includes all Komatsu's standard SpaceCab features such as a spacious working environment, fully adjustable air-suspension seat, low-vibration cab mounting and air conditioning.
The new cab design also contributes an extremely low interior noise level. For the PC210-8, the noise at the operator's ear is just 69 db(A). That makes the PC210-8 the quietest machine in its class for the operator, greatly reducing operator fatigue.
Fuel consumption is also significantly reduced, thanks to a highly efficient engine and closely matched hydraulic unit. The operator can choose between two working modes according to the job being carried out. This ensures there is plenty of power for heavy-duty use while minimizing fuel consumption during lighter tasks. In addition, the Eco-gauge and idle caution features help the operator work in the most fuel efficient manner.
The Eco-gauge and idle caution are clearly displayed on an 18-cm LCD monitor. This large screen makes it easy for the operator to monitor all machine functions and can display data in any of ten languages. It is video compatible and can be used with the optional camera system to give an easy view of the rear of the vehicle.
To help minimize maintenance times and increase productivity, the excavators feature Komatsu's Komtrax tracking system. This enables remote monitoring and location of the machines during operation, allowing mechanics to arrive at the working site fully prepared for any maintenance or repairs required.
All three machines are powered by Komatsu's new innovative ECOT3 engines, which reduce exhaust emissions and increase fuel efficiency. ECOT3 engines meet EU Stage IIIA emissions regulations. For the PC210-8, this is fully 1 year ahead of European legislation.
In addition, the PC290-8 boasts a longer undercarriage for improved stability. This in turn helps further increase productivity.
