MIPIM - General - Future Project Awards

Date: 06 Mar 2006

Projects from all over the world, including Saudi Arabia, Poland, USA, Thailand, the Israel/Jordan border and three schemes from Denmark, have triumphed at this year's MIPIM Future Project Awards, with one project, Doha Gardens in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia by Nabil Gholam Architecture and Planning named as the overall winner. The presentations will be made next week during the annual international conference.

Designed for developer Rikaz, the residential project in Al Khobar comprises 188 units on four hectares and was entered in the masterplanned communities category (which it also won). The judges commended the high quality architecture and elegant design. One judge commented, 'You see a clarity in the presentation which makes you confident that the same clarity lies behind the design'. Another judge enthused: 'The design offers spaces between the buildings which create a sense of place and while you enjoy the generosity of space in the apartments you feel that even if planned at greater density, the basic proposition still worked and could be applied elsewhere'.

The fourth annual Future Project Awards attracted a very high calibre of entrants across the eight categories.

The very successful MIPIM Future Projects scheme is designed to encourage the industry to strive for high design standards in respect of buildings and their relationship to context, and to stimulate discussion and debate around good design.

The initiative has become a key MIPIM event, thanks to a popular conference, exhibition and awards dinner programme. There will be a permanent exhibition of all entrants and featured, alongside the winners in each category, in the official catalogue distributed to all registered delegates.
