Date: 16 Mar 2006
With a ridge height of almost 42.5m - Kimberly Clark's new 160,000 sq ft distribution centre in Northfleet, Kent, is set to be one of the UK's tallest warehouse structures. The steelwork and top-out was completed in the late summer and the building is on schedule for completion at the end of April 2006.
Atlas Ward Structures, based in North Yorkshire has designed, fabricated and erected 1,200 tonnes of structural steelwork for the warehouse, on behalf of main contractor Bowmer & Kirkland. Atlas Ward has worked with Bowmer and Kirkland on numerous occasions and forms an integral part of the company's supply chain.
The North Yorkshire based fabricator secured the project on the basis of rapid on-site programme.
The facility will hold up to 30,000 three metre high pallets in the high bay automated warehouse, with low bay storage in a 12m high zone. Access will be provided by eight level access doors and three dock doors.
Distribution property specialist sbh.uk is project managing the work to replace the previous warehouse which was destroyed by fire. The overall project value is £9.26m.
The distribution facility is located close to the A2 which links to the M25, providing excellent communications for the logistics industry.
