Jackson Construction - Offices Development - Ipswich, Ipswich Preparatory School

Date: 24 Mar 2006

Jackson Construction has reached a milestone in its £3.8 million project to build a new home for Ipswich Preparatory School. Since the new school takes many design cues from Ipswich's proud maritime history, the construction of the highest point of the structure has been celebrated in a slightly unusual 'topping out ceremony'. Jenny Jones, Head of Ipswich Preparatory School and Chris Harrall, Director of Jackson Construction's Commercial division, officially 'launched' the new building in true naval tradition, complete with smashed bottle of champagne.

Work is progressing well on site and the project is well on track to complete on time for the start of the new school year in September. The new school is situated adjacent to the existing Nursery and Pre-Prep Department and provides cohesive education for pupils aged three to eleven on a single purpose built site.

The state-of-the-art building features multi-level open deck areas to provide both recreational space and to extend classroom capabilities, with canopies giving shade and weather protection. Internally, the new Preparatory School will comprise a multi-use hall, a range of classrooms, art rooms, a music and drama centre, a science laboratory and computer centre. The external play decks provide an integral part of the learning environment, with art and science classes making full use of this innovative component of the building's design.

Chris Harrall, Director of Jackson Construction's Commercial division, commented: "The design of the new school building has attracted a great deal of attention and we thought it particularly symbolic to mark this important phase of the construction process with a special ceremony. This high profile development within a conservation area further reinforces Jackson Construction's credentials for creating landmark buildings that enhance the built environment.
