Guide Security Services Ltd - General - Site Security Issues Resolved
Date: 28 Mar 2006
Integrated security solutions provider Guide Security Services Ltd - GSS have recently worked in partnership with one of the leading support service groups in the UK, Morrison's construction services division, in their bid to combat on-site issues faced during construction programs.
Morrison's, a performance partner appointed by Thames Water to undertake works on the AMP 4 programme, providing services from flooding prevention schemes to network infrastructure provision, had identified a number of key problems regarding the protection of sites during construction. The solution from GSS was to design and implement an innovative site management and security system for a number of Morrison's sites.
"The major issues we face at our sites include vulnerability to theft and vandalism as well as a range of health and safety issues." Explains Andrew Faherty, Morrison's Contracts Manager.
"Construction sites can be dangerous places if left unsecured, large shafts are often dug to enable us to work on or replace water infrastructure."
Designed specifically for each location with remote CCTV monitoring by GSS, the security solutions are currently in operation at two of Morrison's sites; Corkscrew Hill and Tiepegs Lane, Bromley, Kent. They are already proving their worth by warning off several intruders who left the sites without causing damage or theft.
The proximity of the Corkscrew Hill site, close to playing fields, has highlighted an additional safety issue of children straying onto the site. The system immediately alerts the GSS remote video response centre operators ensuring safer supervision of any movement around the site.
"The added attraction is the ability to move the GSS system from site to site following the completion of each project, generally after one to three years," explains Morrison's Andrew Faherty, "Re installation of the equipment at any of our new sites offers us a major return on our initial investment, as the system becomes a movable asset rather than a direct construction cost enabling us to realise further cost savings over the life of the system."
GSS National Sales Manager, Robert Pogson, further explains the numerous benefits to installing the GSS systems on site; "GSS have developed these security systems specifically for the construction industry as a solution to the requirement for protection and management of sites during construction."
Morrison's have traditionally used manned guards, but the GSS system has shown to offer real cost saving benefits, 24/7 security and a higher degree of flexibility and reliability over manned guards.
Robert Pogson added; "The systems installed at Morrison's are proving to be a success, not only for their extensive security advantages but also for their practicality, most importantly though is that Morrison's are delighted with the results."
