Totty Building Services - General - Site Safety Campaign
Date: 09 May 2006
Samir Afzal a Year 6 pupil at Birkby Junior School in Huddersfield is the envy of his classmates after scooping the top prize in Totty Building Services' site safety campaign. Totty set the pupils the challenge of designing a site safety poster highlighting the dangers posed by construction sites, with the winning entry set to be displayed around Totty Building Services sites across the North of England.
Dr David Resendez, Totty Construction's group health & safety advisor led the judging panel and was particularly impressed with the quality of entries received. "The need to alert children to the very real dangers that construction sites pose has led us to launch this latest safety initiative. In addition to formal talks in assembly we have found that by engaging pupils through a creative channel we can really get the health & safety message through."
"The overall standard of entries from Birkby Junior School was really very high and choosing one winner was not an easy task. Eventually we decided that Samir's poster best highlighted the message that we want all children to take on board about site safety. With strong use of colour, great visual presence and the clever caption, 'only one of these is a playground' we are delighted that this poster will now be displayed around a host of Totty sites to reinforce our commitment to safety."
Samir was presented with a framed copy of his winning entry and £50 worth of vouchers at a ceremony in front of the entire school, where Totty Building Services is currently on target to complete a £1.5 million project to re-roof and refurbish the grade II listed school buildings by Christmas.
