Haymills - General Development - Design and Craftsmanship Awards
Date: 26 May 2006
Haymills, national building contractors based in Stowmarket, recently picked up a prestigious construction honour at the Suffolk Association of Architects Annual Design and Craftsmanship Awards for its development at Ickworth House, near Bury St Edmunds.
The award was in recognition for outstanding levels of skill and workmanship during the West Wing re-development on the eighteenth century building - recognised by judges as the best large scale project restoration in Suffolk in 2005. Hopkins Architects and client and owner of the property, the National Trust, were also recognised for their involvement in the project.
The awards were announced at the annual dinner of the Suffolk Area Joint Consultative Committee for Building, held at the Elizabeth Hotel in Copdock. The award judges were Patricia Stephenson, chairwoman of the Suffolk Association of Architects, David Palk and Barbara Taylor.
Steve Firman, Regional Director for Haymills said, "This award reflects the site team's hard work and continued close relationship with the National Trust - and I am delighted our skills have been recognised in this way. It also marks a third award winning project with the National Trust - previously for the East Wing at Ickworth House and the creation of visitor facilities at Sutton Hoo."
The £3.6m West Wing development transformed an historic shell of Ickworth House into a first class, three-storey contemporary visitor centre, offering a stunning venue for functions, conferences and special events.
