Colliers CRE - Retail Development - Stockton on Tees, Teesside Shopping Park

Date: 12 Jun 2006

The Building Consultancy division for property advisors Colliers CRE has been retained to project manage major refurbishment works at Teesside Shopping Park. The contract, which is being undertaken to update and modernise the unit frontages is worth in excess of £3 million.

Located just off the A19 in Stockton on Tees, Teesside Shopping Park is the largest out of town retail and leisure destination in the North East. With a catchment of 1.12 million people within 30 minutes drive time, the huge 750,000 sq ft complex serves an average of 180,000 visitors each week from Stockton and Middlesbrough as well as the surrounding towns of Hartlepool, Darlington and Redcar. As well as Marks & Spencer, more recent tenancies secured include TK Maxx, Borders, Superdrug and Mamas & Papas.

With a proposition that continues to attract major retail occupation and subsequent customer demand, developers, The British Land Company Plc, has committed to invest in significant refurbishment of the park.

Part of the strategic plan is the removal of the existing low level mono-pitched canopy, substituting this with a more modern exterior that can facilitate more light and potential mezzanine installations. Works will also include providing improved lighting, enhanced walkways and additional car parking.

Paul Scourfield, head of Building Consultancy at Colliers CRE Leeds office comments, "We have been involved on all facets of refurbishment / new build development at Teesside Shopping Park for more than ten years. Because of our long term experience with the site we are well placed to provide sound advice that allows British Land to continue growth of the retail offer whilst maintaining good pedestrian flow and customer shopping experience.

The canopy refurbishment commenced early May 2006 and is due for completion early 2007.
