Jackson Construction - Offices Development - Croydon, Croydon College

Jackson Construction has won a £3 million project from Croydon College to refurbish and modernise facilities at the institution's engineering workshop. The scheme involves the construction of an extension onto the existing building to enlarge the main workshop area, as well as preliminary works for a second phase of development later in the year, which will see the construction of a new refectory building within the central courtyard of the engineering workshop.

Following the comprehensive strip out of the workshop area, Jackson's will commence the construction of the steel frame extension to the side of the building. Internally, space will be rationalised to provide greater flexibility for the college, with the creation of new offices, workshop areas and welfare facilities. Within the building's courtyard, Jackson will utilise a mini-piling rig and install the foundations for the new refectory building, with this first phase of development due for completion in Spring 2007.

Mark Hart, director of Jackson Construction's Public division, commented: "There are a number of challenging elements to the scheme, including operating within a busy campus environment and the issue of accessibility to the site, which is located on a main red route into Croydon. By working closely with the College and designing a robust traffic management system we will look to mitigate any potential disruption to students and staff throughout the project."
