Celcon - Offices Development - Bridgend, Celcon Thin-Joint System Used in Jehu Project Services HQ

Date: 05 Sep 2006

There are few better recommendations for a building product than when a contractor chooses it for his own offices. When Jehu Project Services, the Bridgend-based construction and civil engineering company, built their new 1,300 sq m headquarters building at Waterton Park, Bridgend they chose Celcon aircrete blocks for the inner skin. Says Chris Neville, project manager for the development: "We had used Celcon aircrete blocks before but this was the first time we had used H+H Celcon's Thin-Joint System. We took the decision for the increased speed of construction that the system offers and were very please with the results. Using Celcon blocks with the Thin-Joint system to fill in the steel frame, we achieved a weathertight envelope very quickly. This took the brickwork off the critical path completely and enabled us to start work on the inside of the offices while the outer skin was still going up."

Jehu's new headquarters building is four storeys high, with rib deck concrete floors and access flooring. Celcon aircrete blocks with the Thin-Joint system were used at ground, first and second floor level to infill the steel frame and achieve the required U-value of 0.35W/mēK. The top floor had glazed panel curtain walling.

Jehu is planning to use H+H Celcon's Thin-Joint system on two further units, for occupation or letting, which are to be built on site.
