Forsters LLP - Mixed-Use Development - Camberley, Camberley Town Centre
Date: 26 Sep 2006
Forsters' public sector team acted for Surrey Heath Borough Council to complete the documentation relating to the development of a major site in Camberley town centre. The agreement paves the way for a major new mixed-use scheme and the keys to the site were handed over to the developers, Crest Nicholson Regeneration, earlier this month. At the same time, Crest entered into their funding arrangements with Standard Life Investments.
The 242,000 sq ft development, to be known as The Atrium, will provide a new cinema, bowling, shops, restaurants, cafés and apartments, as well as 680 public car parking spaces, with the new shops and leisure names for the scheme to be announced shortly.
Forsters has worked with Surrey Heath Borough Council for a number of years to bring this project to fruition. The site was identified in the 1980s as a longer term sustainable development opportunity for Camberley, while in the short term it provided extra car parking spaces for the town. Forsters dealt with site assembly and vacant possession issues as well as advising on the development documentation and construction matters.
Forsters' team on the deal was led by Smita Edwards. The team is building a growing reputation in the public sector, with other clients including Chester City Council, the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, and Suffolk County Council.
Roger Woolfe of Collyer Bristow acted for Crest Nicholson and Emer O'Flynn of Herbert Smith acted for Standard Life Investments.
