Parkway Construction (MK) - Industrial Development - Milton Keynes, New £2m Distribution Hub for Cleveland Cable

Date: 04 Oct 2006

Parkway Construction (MK) Limited has recently commenced work on a new state of the art storage and distribution hub for one of the UK and possibly Europe's foremost distributor of electrical cable; Cleveland Cable Company Limited. The project will allow Cleveland Cables to relocate form their existing hub within Milton Keynes to this new site situated less than a mile away. The closeness of the relocation will minimise the disruption of moving a trading facility.

The project sees Parkway Construction (MK) Limited construct a 22,000ft2 cutting and distribution hub at Wolverton Mill, Milton Keynes, comprising of structural steel frame and composite roof and wall cladding.

Allan Carr, Construction Director for Parkway Construction (MK) Limited, commented: "Normally the design and construction of a 22,000ft2 building would not provide us with any headaches. This particular project and the site constraints of having to design a facility to fit within a 2.4 acre site with a 7 metre level difference across the site meant pinpoint attention to the design of the finished levels and boundary treatments. It also created a programming issue of moving 7,000m3 of excavated material around the site to fill the lower levels."

"Working closely with our design team we also had to provide a building that not only had to comply with the newly introduced Part L Building Regulations but also attain a Very Good rating by BREAMM, both of which have been achieved."
