Procare Construction - Offices Development - Hemel Hempstead, Procare Wins Major Re-build Contract at Buncefield

Date: 06 Oct 2006

Watford-based Procare Construction has been awarded a contract worth £870k to demolish and reconstruct two Cornhill Insurance buildings, heavily damaged following a series of major explosions at the Buncefield Oil Depot in Hemel Hempstead last December. Procare began work on the buildings, known as Quadtech Units 1 to 4, in September and completion is scheduled for late Spring 2007.

The project consultant is Lambert Smith Hampton but it was Dexter Brown, Cornhill's Managing Agent, who initially appointed Procare's Maintenance Division to assist in the clear-up process following the devastating blasts, described as possibly the largest in peacetime Europe. The buildings undergoing restoration, housed approximately 200 people and are located in Boundary Way, just 250 yards from where the tanks exploded.

Procare managing director David Williams commented: "The project itself is rather unique due to the fact that it is the reinstatement and restoration of two relatively modern buildings which underwent damage comparable to the effects of a bomb blast. It also perfectly demonstrates the sheer depth of construction expertise we have developed and can provide here at Procare," adds Williams.
