R W Gregory - Mixed-Use Appointment - Manchester, Square Deal for Trafford Centre
Date: 24 Oct 2006
Manchester consulting engineers R W Gregory has been appointed by Peel Holdings to work on a 200,000sq ft retail extension to Barton Square at the Trafford Centre.
The contract covers the design of the whole of the mechanical and electrical services installations for the scheme, including the decorative Romanesque lighting and an eye-catching 213ft Campanile tower.
Partner Barrie Harmer said: "The new development will answer the demand for home store-style retailers at the Trafford Centre and the new tower will provide a sympathetic but striking landmark approach from the M60.
"Barton Square adds to our growing portfolio of retail sector projects while complementing our key client focus strategy by further developing our relationship with Peel Holdings."
The new scheme will be linked to the existing Trafford Centre by a new, enclosed bridge and it is expected Barton Square will be open by Easter 2008.
Leach Rhodes Walker is the architect on the scheme, Mott Macdonald is the structural engineer and Deacon & Jones is the quantity surveyor.
