Carillion - Mixed-Use Development - Northwood, Northwood Development Project: Turf Cutting Ceremony

A joint 'Turf Cutting' ceremony by Lieutenant General Nick Houghton (Chief of Joint Operations) and Don Kenny (Executive Director Carillion plc) was held at the Northwood Headquarters, the home of the Permanent Joint Headquarters (PJHQ), Fleet and NATO Headquarters on 30 October 2006 to mark the formal commencement of the Northwood Development Project contract.
Lieutenant General Nick Houghton thanked the representatives from Carillion for attending to mark officially the start of the Northwood Development PFI project with Carillion. He stressed the importance of the operational output of the Site and explained how personnel will benefit from the improved living and working facilities on site. Importantly, the improved welfare facilities would also visibly enhance the conditions for personnel and their families visiting the Site. He stressed that he had every confidence that Carillion would be able to deliver this project and looked forward to a highly effective and lasting relationship with Carillion over the forthcoming months and years.
In reply, Don Kenny said that it gave him much pleasure to join General Nick Houghton in formally acknowledging the commencement of this 25-year contract with the Ministry of Defence to deliver a positive, modern Headquarters, accommodation and services to the Permanent Joint Headquarters, Fleet and NATO Headquarters at the strategically important Northwood site. He remarked that he was confident that the expertise of Carillion will deliver real benefits for Northwood Headquarters and a value for money solution for the taxpayer. He also remarked that the men and women who serve in the Armed Forces deserve a modern and fully serviced work environment and accommodation and that is what Carillion intend delivering.
