BDP - Mixed-Use Development - Teddington, BDP Win Teddington School Contract

Date: 06 Nov 2006

BDP has won the commission to design and build a new secondary school in Teddington, Middlesex. As a 'BSF One-School Pathfinder' Teddington School has been selected as the exemplar project for future schools in the London Borough of Richmond. The eight form entry school and sixth form centre has a construction cost of £30m with a completion date of 2009.

BDP was commissioned on an interdisciplinary basis, after a contest against five strong consultants. The school's brief is for an inspirational learning environment with flexibility of use and a striking visual identity to foster a strong sense of community.

This win closely follows the appointment to build East Barnet School, also due for completion in 2009. The new school, which is to be a Science Demonstration Project, will specialise in science and design technology, as well as providing both vocational and academic courses.
