Support services and construction company Carillion has won a £200m contract through its Middle East joint venture, Al Futtaim Carillion, for the construction of a large residential complex in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Motor City Uptown Area 2 involves the construction of 34 residential properties of between three, four and six storeys, for developers Union Properties PJSC. Al Futtaim Carillion has already been awarded the £40m contract for Motor City's infrastructure and landscaping, which began on site in April 2006. Uptown Area 2 starts on site in November 2006 and is scheduled for completion in May 2009.
Commenting on the win, Carillion chief executive John McDonough, said: "The award of this prestigious contract further underlines Al Futtaim Carillion as one of the Middle East's leading construction companies. Motor City Uptown Area 2 continues the successful relationship we have built up with Union Properties on previous contracts including the nearby Dubai Autodrome."
The Al Futtaim Carillion joint venture has had a well-established business in the Middle East for over 50 years.
