Carillion - General - UK, Carillion Awarded Investors in People Award
Date: 14 Nov 2006
Carillion has achieved the Investors in People (IIP) accreditation at two of its hospital PFI contracts: Harplands Hospital in Stoke on Trent and Langlands Building at Southern General Hospital, Glasgow.
The awards were received in recognition of various employee development initiatives implemented by Carillion as part of its People Strategy campaign. IIP is the national standard which sets out levels of good practice for the training and development of people in order to achieve business goals.
Carillion Health managing director, Adrian Bull, said: "These awards are a great recognition of all the hard work put in by the teams at the hospitals. Our aim is to attract, develop and retain the best people and the benefits of IIP mean that our people feel happy, valued and recognised for their work. This is demonstrated by the fact that employee turnover and sickness absence have both reduced by 50 per cent since we introduced the Carillion People Strategy three years ago."
Construction of the Langlands Building, a 210-bed intermediate care unit in the grounds of Glasgow's Southern General Hospital, was completed by Carillion in June 2001. Harplands Hospital, a 148-bed acute psychiatric unit, was finished in September 2001. Carillion is now providing a range of facilities management services at both hospitals including catering, cleaning, security, portering and helpdesk.
