Miller Construction - Mixed-Use Development - Livingston, £92m Contract for Expansion of Livingston Town Centre

Date: 24 Nov 2006

Miller Construction has been awarded a £92million contract for the retail and leisure expansion of Livingston town centre.

The project, which is now on-site, will extend the existing Almondvale Centre, forming a link to the neighbouring Designer Outlet Centre. This will create over 350,000 sq ft of new retail space and an additional 25,000 sq ft of leisure and catering space, with Debenhams as the anchor store.

The extension will be at the cutting edge of design - the two-storey structure will feature a magnificent transparent arched roof, taking its inspiration from other landmark buildings including Cornwall's Eden Project. It will boast a stunning new shopping 'avenue' which is expected to enhance the shopping experience as well as attract new retailers and entertainment outlets to the area.

External work will take place to create wide walkways, new civic spaces and open terraces, thus enhancing the area for the community.

Gordon Kew, Director, Miller Construction, said: "We are delighted to be appointed as the main contractor for this exciting extension.

"We have extensive experience in retail construction and we are looking forward to delivering first-class leisure and retail facilities.

"This project is set to reinforce Livingston's position on the map as an attractive and exciting shopping destination."

Work is expected to be completed in autumn 2008.
