Turnstone Estates - Mixed-Use Development - Chelmsford, Planning Consent for £15m Mixed-Use Development
Date: 01 Dec 2006
Turnstone Estates has been granted planning consent by Chelmsford Borough Council for its £15 million mixed-use development on Parkway, Chelmsford, Essex.
The scheme, located on a 1.4 acre (0.56 hectare) site adjacent to the Army & Navy roundabout, the gateway to Chelmsford town centre, will comprise an 80-bed hotel, 12 residential flats and 26,000 sq ft (2,415 sq m) of retail/restaurant space in units ranging from 500 to 10,000 sq ft (46 to 929 sq m).
The scheme will be served by a 77 space car park and will also incorporate significant improvements to the local highway with access rationalised and land made available for capacity enhancements to the Army & Navy roundabout.
Work is due to start on site in spring 2007, with completion scheduled for spring 2008.
Chris Goldsmith, managing director of Turnstone Estates, comments: "Extensive public consultation has been carried out to get to this point in the development. We have worked closely with the local Council and nearby occupiers to create a suitable mix of uses and building form for the area. We are already in discussion with a budget hotel operator."
Turnstone speculatively acquired the site in 2005 for £3.22 million. Part of the site, which housed the Army & Navy Pub was purchased from Mitchells & Butler and an adjoining yard was purchased from timber merchants Gards.
Letting agents are Januarys and Wareing & Partners. The architect is SMC Covell Matthews.
