Marubeni-Komatsu Ltd - General - Komatsu Hydraulics Well Received By Hanson Aggregates

Date: 06 Dec 2006

Early in the year, Marubeni-Komatsu received a prestigious award from the Health and Safety Commission (HSC) for developing walkways and safety railing systems that helped to reduce the amount of injuries occurring on quarry sites. Hanson Aggregates, one of the largest construction materials companies in the UK, have been at the forefront in their support of the access and egress systems. Hanson demonstrated their support by purchasing ten wheel loaders and two bulldozers - these are the first bulldozers to feature the hydraulic activated system which enables safe climbing into the machines with minimum danger to the driver.

David Weeks, communications manager for Hanson UK, said: "Analysis of our accident statistics revealed that getting in and out of mobile plant had been at the root of a number of minor injuries to drivers, and presented an unacceptable risk. Komatsu's willingness to work closely with our production management and adapt their machines to include additional safety features was a key factor in our purchasing decision. Health and safety is a top priority for Hanson and we have an ongoing target to eliminate all workplace injuries."

Demands are high for Hanson Aggregates as they manage over 400 operational sites, with 3,000 employees handling core products which include: sand and gravel, Premix concrete and mortar,
crushed rock and asphalt. For this reason it is vital that new purchases of construction machines are built to meet these requirements, which led to Marubeni-Komatsu's delivery of ten wheel loaders ranging from WA400 - WA500, a D275 bulldozer and a D155 bulldozer.

Ecological considerations are also taken into account as the engine offers low fuel consumption with low emissions, without compromising on the high torque. SpaceCabTM comes as standard for better visibility. Operator comfort also includes an air cushioned seat, ergonomic designed controls, air conditioning and low interior noise level at only 71dB(A).
