Galliford Try plc, the construction and housebuilding group, today announces that it has been selected by national regeneration agency English Partnerships as its preferred development partner to regenerate the former Turner Village hospital site in Colchester, Essex.

The scheme, which will be constructed on a 24 acre site, will provide 430 new homes, of which 107 will be affordable. The homes will be built to be extremely environmentally friendly, achieving an Eco Homes rating of 'Excellent'. Construction works are expected to commence in late summer 2007.

Greg Fitzgerald, Chief Executive of Galliford Try, said: "This award underlines Galliford Try's strengths in the regeneration and affordable housing sectors, which continue to provide good opportunities for growth. We are delighted to be working with English Partnerships in Colchester which, following Camborne in Cornwall, is the second major project awarded to us by English Partnerships in 2006."

John Lewis, Regional Director for English Partnerships said: "Having led the original negotiations with the NHS to acquire the portfolio of redundant hospital sites it is extremely pleasing to now see these sites creating much needed housing.

"We were very impressed with the quality of the submissions received for this site and are confident that Galliford Try will deliver a first class development."
